Horse Supplies

So my little girl is growing up at 12 years old she is more grown up than I remember being at that age except for one thing she has always wanted a horse of her own and its her birthday coming up and guess what she wants/ A horse of course! The difference is that we are now in a position to give her one. We live in a more rural area where she can ride safely and there is a stable within walking distance where it can be kept. In fact I already have her new horse stabled there and I am now researching horse supplies, they need lots of things from riding accessories to cleaning and feeding accessories. Here are the main horse supplies that I have come up with for our new horse.

What you need I horse supplies

1. Horse clipper – Like us a horse needs to have its hair clipped for comfort especially in the hot weather or if you are showing your horse and this is an essential part of your horse supplies. A word of caution when you are buying make sure that you purchase clippers that are strong and durable as horse hair can be a bit tough on the blades;

2. Heated bucket – we live in an area that gets pretty cold so I think that a heated water bucket will be a part of our horse supplies. I found one that is tested to 20 degrees below zero, with a covered element and that holds 5 gallons of water. It turns on only when the temperature reaches a certain point and turns off when it is empty so as to not burn out;

3. Parasite paste – parasites can do a lot of damage to your horse which apart from being a loved family pet is a considerable time and money investment so it pays to have paste to get rid of parasites as part of your horse supplies. If you are not sure of what dosage to give your horse consult your local vet before treating your horse;

4. Grooming accessories – I have lumped these together because there are so many horse supplies available and needed to keep your horse in good condition. From a great shampoo to combs and brushes, sponges, hoof oil and a hoof picker. Love your horse with these necessary horse supplies and it will live a long and happy life and cost you less in vet bills;

5. Hoof boots – these come in different sizes so make sure of your horses hoof size before you purchase. These are horse supplies designed to protect the hooves of your horse but an ill fitting boot can be disastrous and end up creating instability in your horses gait or worse;

6. Horse Blanket – yes horses feel the cold, maybe not as much as you and me but they can pick up medical conditions if they are not warm in the cold weather or after they have been exercising. Make sure that you have a good quality blanket in your horse supplies to meet the needs of your horse and the environment where he is stabled;

7. Hay Steamer – theses are a great part of your horse supplies because they help your horse feel and live healthier. They get rid of dust mites, particles and mold spores in the hay and are reputed to relieve respiratory conditions in horses which can present as a cough or a wheeze;

8. Fly repellent – have you ever seen a horse irritated by flies and how the quiver to get rid of flies and stop them from biting. If you want to make sure that your horse has better relief from the irritation of flies add fly repellent to your list when you buy horse supplies;

9. Horse de-shedding tool – is an interesting addition to your essential horse supplies. It helps get rid of all that additional fur that your regular brushes may struggle with. Keep your horse free of loose hair to keep your clothing cleaner and your horse more comfortable. Essential before any show event to make sure your horse is looking its very best;

10. Turnout sheet – for when your horse is roving the paddock in the cold wintry weather. A good turnout sheet will keep him warm and dry while exercising or grazing and should be added to your horse supplies especially for colder climates;

11. Riding helmet – this is essential gear for your horse supplies. My daughter is going to be taught that she must always ride with her helmet on. Unfortunately accidents do happen and if the rider is wearing a helmet there is a much less chance of head injuries.

In preparation for my daughters surprise birthday horse we bought most of these horse supplies and more there are some other very obvious horse supplies that are also essential that I haven’t mentioned here. Things like saddles, bits and reins – what you buy is very dependent on how you will be riding and whether it is for pleasure or show or maybe even both.

Horse supplies also depend on your horse and its particular needs, the climate that you live in and whether the horse will be stabled or all year round outdoors in a paddock. So happy riding and make sure that both the rider and the horse are always safe, comfortable and happy.
